Genomic sequence of a 12S seed storage protein gene from oat (Avena sativa L. cv. We cloned two EcoRI DNA fragments of Avena sativa L. cv. 'Solidor' in XgtlO and isolated recombinants by screening with cDNA plasmid pOG77 (1). Comparison with the cDNA sequence of pOG2 (2) shows that clone ASglo5 carries on a 4.4 kb EcoRI fragment a complete 12S globulin gene with 1.0 kb 5' flanking sequence and 1.45 kb 3' flanking sequence. The transcription start site (+ 1) was predicted according to (3). Putative TATA box and polyadenylation signals are underlined as well as a region 5' to the TATA box which has homology to parts of the legumin box (4).
