The nasogastric tube was removed and the patient’s mental status remained unchanged from that observed before placement. The patient had no sequela as a result of the placement of the tube, and continued improvement was observed.In the next few weeks the patient’s condition was stable enough to allow his transfer to a rehabilitation center for further treatment. 21-year-old Chinese woman was referred to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery for extraction of the decayed mandibular right third molar. Oral examination disclosed that the mandibular right third molar was partially erupted and was impacted by the secondmolar. An occlusal decayedcavity of the mandibular right third molar was also noted. The periapical radiograph of the affected tooth showed that a supernumerary tooth with a distinct crown and dental follicle spacewas fused to the mandibular right third molar (Fig. 1). A common pulpal spacebetween the fused supernumerary tooth and the regular third

molar was present. A balloon-shaped dens invaginatus arising from the crown of the fused supernumerary tooth was discernible radiographically. The extracted fused tooth has two separate tooth crowns (Fig. 2, A, buccaf aspect), and a prominent crest in the junctional area (Fig. 2, B, lingual aspect). Multiple apical foramina were also noted in the apical region
