he first decade of Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism (CCMBM), the official Journal of the OrtoMed Scientific Society, ends with this number. A decade of achievements that brought our Journal to become a reference platform to clinicians interested in the field of mineral and bone metabolism. Submissions have been increasing and the reports are highly cited. The most important goal of the Journal, receiving good papers, has been reached. The second goal, involving orthopaedic specialists within and outside the OrtoMed Society, has been accomplished. In the spirit of the OrtoMed Society, also its official Journal, CCMBM, is a unique forum where orthopaedic surgeons confront with specialists in the field of bone metabolism and with basic researchers. This issue is another example of this multidisciplinary spirit. A mini-review on the bioengineering of composite scaffolds in bone interventions by Cecilia Romagnoli and colleagues opens this issue of the Journal. This is a strategic area spanning from basic science to orthopaedic surgery. Marcello Filopanti and colleagues reviewed the pharmacology of the calcium receptor, a field with potential impacts also in bone metabolism. Two articles by Stefano Stagi and colleagues review the biochemical and instrumental diagnosis of bone metabolic disorders in children and adolescents. The role of bone densitometry in patients with osteomalacia is covered by Massoud Saghafi and colleagues. Stefania Ciolli introduced new insights in the analysis of the effects of novel chemotherapeutic agents and biologic drugs on bone metabolism in oncology. Finally, the mini-reviews section ends with the article by Maria Luisa Brandi and Dennis Black on the development of a new formulation of drinkable alendronate for osteoporosis, an important area of pharmacological development for the prevention of fragility fractures with potential improvements in adherence to treatment. Two original articles focus on two important areas of investigation. One is the evaluation of fracture risk in postmenopausal women by Antonino Catalano and colleagues. The other describes the analysis of persistence and compliance to branded alendronate vs the generic formulation in the Lombardy Region. The section on case reports encompasses three bone patient histories in endocrine disorders and the effect of strontium ranelate and teriparatide on fracture healing in two cases, one affected by rheumatoid arthritis and the other by stress fractures. Finally, as always, Francesco Tonelli is entertaining us with an original article dedicated to the alive skeletons of Luca Signorelli. These articles have been raising a great curiosity within our field and certainly represent a unique collection of historical descriptions. As always CCMBM takes only responsibility for the editorial content and paper review. The aforementioned contents testimony the scientific growth of the OrtoMed Society and of its official Journal, that act in concert to update knowledge in the areas of mineral and bone metabolism and of regenerative skeletal physiology and pathology.
