e made it! Eleven years of age, our Journal is in its adolescence phase. To celebrate (Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism (CCMBM) we have put together a miscellaneous collection of reports on different areas of mineral and bone disorders, some very new. Three articles are dedicated to the theme of bone pain, an area of great interest still waiting for answers. The three papers describe pain pharmacology, pathogenesis of bone pain and use of opioids for treatment of bone pain in osteoporosis. This is going to be an important field that the OrtoMed Society will be revisiting in the future. The two following manuscripts are focusing on sarcopenia, that is defined and whose diagnostic technologies are evaluated. Giovanni Iolascon and Colleagues report on the position of OrtoMed Society in relation to physical exercise and sarcopenia. This is another topic that the OrtoMed Society will take in great consideration in its mission. Angelo Gatta and Colleagues describe in depth the pathogenetic basis of hepatic osteodystrophy, a field of interest both to internists and orthopaedic surgeons. Two papers describe surgical and medical management of the hip fractured patient, presenting on one side the pharmacological prevention on venous thromboembolism and on the other side actual surgical approaches. Moreover, periprosthetic bone densitometry is described in a manuscript from Paolo Domenico Parchi and Colleagues. Osteoporosis is reviewed in a paper from Roberto Bernabei and Colleagues, while Ranuccio Nuti reviewed the mechanism of action and clinical efficacy of risedronate. Prevention of falls and their pathogenesis is described by Pietro Pasquetti and Colleagues. A case report by Masatoshi Komatsu and Colleagues, accompanied by a literature review, describes the role of osteoarthritis in the rapid bone destruction in the knee. Finally, as always Francesco Tonelli is presenting a “bone artistic” manuscript fully dedicated to the painter Jacopo Ligozzi and his fine naturalia and macabre skulls. Another extraordinary contribution to the Bone Disease in Art Section of CCMBM. As always CCMBM takes only responsibility for the editorial content and peer review. At CCMBM we are always trying to enhance your interest in the management of mineral and skeletal metabolic disorders. We trust that you will find this issue of CCMBM tube of particular interest.
