I

n 2015 the third issue of Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism (CCMBM) is presenting a unique collection of articles in the area of orthopaedics and bone metabolism. You will find in this issue of CCMBM two reviews, six original articles and eight case reports. The number of submission is in constant increase, keeping the Editorial Office quite busy. This is the proof of the success of the Journal and of Italia attractiveness. The reviews treatment areas are of great interest in the field of orthopaedic and bone metabolic sciences. Carla Gherardini et al. describe the pharmacological basis of opioids. Cristiana Cipriani et al. offer an update on pros and cons of vitamin D administration. The six original articles focus on both basic research and clinical science. Francesca Marini et al. analyze the osteogenic differentiation of adipose tissue-derived stem cells on nanostructured titanium surfaces. A very interesting report from Parviz Toossi et al. describes the level so fine calcifediol in patients affected by acne vulgaris. In another study the Pisa orthopaedic group describes three-dimensional parametric mapping in quantitative micro-CT imaging in bone ex vivo samples. The same group describes also the role of bone metabolism in hip replacement in osteoarthritis. The last two original articles are focused on the pharmacological treatment of fragile patients, including Rett patients treated with teriparatide by Stefano Gonnelli et al. Finally, the eight case reports describe different conditions, including rare bone disorders and pharmacological treatment of unique cases. Osteoclastoma in cultura The aforementioned papers indicate the scientific growth of the Journal and its popularity, making easier to update the knowledge of important questions in the area of bone and mineral metabolism applied to orthopaedics. So always CCMBM takes only responsibility for the editorial content and peer-review. This is a fertile moment for metabolic/orthopaedic science and CCMBM is capitalizing this excitement.
