n this number of Clinical Cases in Mineral and Bone Metabolism (CCMBM) we have collected an exceptional number of articles, witnessing the great interest towards our Journal from Authors from different parts of the world. CCMBM is growing in contributions that include Reviews, Original Articles and Case Reports, all focusing on themes related to bone and mineral metabolism. The introductory article focuses on algodystrophy in the effort to describe the various phenotypes with similar signs and symptoms, an area of great and increasing interest by orthopaedic surgeons. Mohammad Shafi Kuchay and Colleagues describe in depth the pathogenetic basis of hypercalcemia in advanced chronic liver disease, a forgotten clinical entity with an immediate impact on the clinical management of the affected patients. A very interesting report from Motoyuki Horii and Colleagues describes the epidemiology of femoral fractures in Japan, an area of increasing interest by Health Authorities. Junichi Takada and Colleagues analyze the effects of different antiresorptive agents on serum tartrate resistant acid phosphatase-5b levels in postmenopausal women. An original article by Thomas Baum and Colleagues focuses on an important area of investigation, the instrumental diagnosis of bone damage in women with breast cancer treated with an aromatase inhibitor. The novel findings on the use of clodronate in osteoporosis are introduced by Alfredo Nardi and Colleagues. Hyaluronan viscosupplementation in osteoarthritis treatment is described in a paper by Chiara Schiraldi and Colleagues. Atraumatic intracapsular femur fractures after prolonged bisphosphonate treatment is reported by Sameer Khalid Khan and Colleagues, as a new atypical variant. Eugenio Chiarello and Colleagues review the accumulated knowledge in the surgical prevention of femoral neck fractures in elderly osteoporotic patients. Finally, eight Case Reports describe different conditions, including melorheostosis, hypoparathyroidism, parathyroid carcinoma, bilateral femoral fractures, and bone loss in poliomyelitis. Also, a Case Report describes the efficacy of a specific rehabilitation program in a young woman with multiple fragility fractures. The aforementioned papers indicate the scientific growth of the Journal, whose mission is to update the knowledge of the relevant questions in the area of bone and mineral metabolism applied to orthopaedics. As always CCMBM takes only responsibility for the editorial content and peer-review. Do not hesitate to send any comments and suggestions about CCMBM to [email protected].
