Private M. B., employed in the Tailor's shop of the Leinster Regiment, was admitted to Hospital on 10th September 1888. Patient

stated that some one had placed a sewing needle point upwards on his seat as a practical joke, and that when he sat down, the needle passed into his hip. On admission he complaiued of a pricking seusation in this region when he tried to walk. An undefined deep hardness could be felt, and an attempt was made to extract the needle by cutting down on it which was unsuccessful. After twelve days, treatment lie was discharged to duty, the hardness having almost disappeared. On 8th February 1889 patient was re-admitted now complaining of pricking in the back of the thigh, mosttroublesome while walking; a deep hardness could befelt about the centre of the posterior aspect of the thigh ; an incision over this enabled the bead of the needle to be felt about ? inch from the surface. It was then easily extracted.' Since the foreign body entered at the point of the buttock, it had travelled across the front of the thigh to its inner side, then round to the back where it was extracted.
