Neuroimaging

Preface

Laszlo L. Mechtler, MD Editor

This issue of Neurologic Clinics is dedicated to the field of neuroimaging, and it is truly a joint effort by neurologists, neurosurgeons, and radiologists, who are at the forefront of this subspecialty. I am honored to have been asked to return as the guest editor for a follow-up to the 2009 Neurologic Clinics, Neuroimaging edition. In this issue, we have attempted to strike a balance between exciting new technology and more conventional review articles. The future of neurologists in neuroimaging depend on increasing the understanding about the latest advances in this topic, as well as the development of greater participation by neurologists in academic and political organizations that are interested in neuroimaging. This edition of Neurologic Clinics devoted to the issue of neuroimaging is a testament to the awakening interest of neurologists. Neuroimaging, over the years, has evolved beyond anatomic and basic tissue imaging into a field that offers exquisite information on the biological processes on central nervous system disease. A spectrum of subspecialists in the field of neuroimaging has worked together to provide a rational approach for the evaluation and multidisciplinary care of neurological disorders. The imaging of the central nervous system is a shared science, and it should never be exclusive of any one subspecialty. In the end, our patients will reap the benefits of this practice. I have the utmost gratitude for the time and effort that the authors have spent on preparing this issue. I believe that you will be impressed with the outstanding contributions from these authors. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Randolph Evans, MD, for his encouragement, faith, and support of the field of neuroimaging. I would also like to thank Donald Mumford, developmental editor of Neurologic Clinics at Elsevier, for his professionalism, patience, and guidance. Last, I would like to thank my parents, Stephen and Gizella Mechtler, for always nurturing my passion for medicine.
