ABSTRACT Aureimonas altamirensis (A. altamirensis) is a recently described aerobic Gram-negative bacillus related to Brucella species, which is a potential opportunistic pathogen of humans. Aureimonas altamirensis ON-56566 was isolated from the blood culture of a patient who presented with cellulitis. This brief report describes a short case report and the first draft genome (13 contigs) of A. altamirensis ON-56566 which consists of 4 202 944 nucleotides with G+C content of 65.2%. Aureimonas altamirensis (former name: Aurantimonas altamirensis) is an aerobic Gram-negative bacillus belonging to the newly described family of Aurantimonadaceae (Jurado et al., 2006; Rathsack et al., 2011). Members of this family have been primarily isolated from environmental sources (Denner et al., 2006; Jurado et al., 2006; Kim et al., 2008; Weon et al., 2007; Anderson et al., 2009). However, several recent reports indicate that A. altamirensis is a potential human pathogen, having been associated with cases of keratitis, dendritic corneal ulcer, in pleural effusions, cystic fibrosis-related infection, bacteremia following scrotal infection, and peritonitis (Luong et al., 2008; ¨ Mendes et al., 2009; Tellez-Castillo et al., 2010; Schrottner et al., 2014). A recent report from the veterinary literature describes coisolation of A. altamirensis with Blastomyces dermatitidis from a testicular infection in a dog (Reilly et al., 2014). Although these reports are suggestive of A. altamirensis having an etiologic role in disease, this remains unclear as it is often isolated with other organisms. Here, we describe the first draft whole-genome sequence of a member of the species A. altamirensis (strain ON-56566) iso-

lated from a human blood culture. The patient presented to the emergency room with worsening cellulitis of the forearm, wrist and hand following a previous carpal tunnel release surgery and a recent dog bite to the area. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from a swab of the wound site, and Gram-negative bacilli were isolated from a single blood culture bottle collected at the time of presentation. Automated and reference biochemical profiling methods failed to identify the Gram-negative organism: it was initially described as a yellow, aerobic, catalase and oxidase positive, non-motile and non-spore former with optimal growth at 37◦ C, 6.5% (w/v) NaCl on bile esculin plate. Preliminary identification using MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry (Bruker MALDI BioTyper, Germany) identified the organism as A. altamirensis, with a log score of 1.79 (Croxatto, Prod’hom and Greub 2012; El-Bouri et al., 2012).
