This issue of the journal marks the change of the its name from Aswan Heart Centre: Science and Practice Series to Global Cardiology Science and Practice. This change is designed to more accurately describe the original mission of the journal, which is to present to our readership the latest in the three areas of science, practice and global cardiology in almost equal proportions. Until recently, global cardiology has been relatively neglected [1–6]. This is changing rapidly with the increasing realization that the current situation in untenable and thus requires concerted efforts from clinicians, scientists and other stakeholders [4–6]. We remain fully committed to the mission of the journal and invite submissions in all three areas as well as comments on how we can improve our methods of achieving the declared objectives.
