Welcome to the 9th World Stroke Congress in Istanbul, October 22–25, 2014 The multi-faceted issues of stroke will be discussed in Turkey, which is located at the junction of the three continents of the old World and the meeting point of Asia and Europe. This region has been important throughout history and is the birthplace of many great civilizations. Turkey is a window through which Western Culture meets Eastern Culture. Stroke is an important public health problem in Turkey, particularly as the average life expectancy has increased in the region. Although stroke patients receive optimal treatment in many accredited centers, there are difficulties in providing best-practice care because of the disparities of infrastructure between hospitals throughout the country.

We believe that this Congress will provide a cutting-edge educational and scientific experience, focussing on the latest developments in stroke prevention, acute management and restorative care after stroke. There will be a particular focus on challenges and strategies relevant to rapidly developing regions. A vibrant social program will provide an opportunity to explore the fascinating city of Istanbul and other highlights of modern and historic Turkey. We look forward to meeting you in Istanbul. Join us at the World Stroke Congress 2014 in Istanbul, and join the World Stroke Organization to strengthen its work against stroke in all parts of the world.
