RETEST RELIABILITY OF T H E WECHSLER PRESCHOOL AND PRIMARY SCALE OF INTELLIGENCE RESTANDARDIZED I N IRAN ' ASGHAR RAZAVIEH AND SIMA SHAHIM Shiraz Uniuersity Summary.-Retest reliability of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence test scores was performed in Iran using 30 subjects in a time interval of 5 to 6 wk. The results of this analysis suggest that this restandardization of the WPPSI provides a consistent measure of intelligence for application in Iran. Reliability coefficients of .83, .90, and .88 were found for Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and Full Scale IQ, respectively.

The WechsIer Preschool and Primary Scale of Intehgence has been recently restandardized in Shiraz, Iran (Razavieh & Shahim, 1988). The present analysis concerns the stability of these WPPSI test scores over about a month's time. TABLE 1

from ages 4.6 yr. The subjects were 30 children, 15 boys and 15 to 6.0 yr. They were randomly selected from a public kindergarten in Shiraz. Tests were given by a trained examiner who also retested those children -

after 5 or 6 wk.; the mean interval was 39 days. Table 1 presents the means, standard deviations, and Pearson coefficients of correlation for the subtests as well as those for Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and Full Scale IQ. The correlations were corrected for differences in spread between this group and the normative group using the method applied by Wechsler (1967). Performance subtests showed larger stability coefficients than the verbal subtests. Correlations of .83, .90, and .88 were obtained for Verbal IQ, Performance IQ, and Full Scale IQ, respectively. These results are comparable with retest IQ reliabilities reported by Wechsler (1967). For Vocabulary, Comprehension, Animal House, Mazes, and Geometric Design the stability coefficients were higher than the values reported by Wechsler (1967). The range of reliability coefficients was from .27 for Similarities to .87 for Mazes. The range of subtest means on the first administration varied from 9.70 to 10.73 and on the second administration varied from 10.00 to 13.33. According to Anastasi (1976) reliabi.hty coefficients of this magnitude for Verbal, Performance, and Full Scale IQs are satisfactory. These results suggest that this restandardization of the WPPSI provides a consistent measure of intelligence for use in Iran. REFERENCES ANASTASI,A. (1976) Psychological testing. New York: Macmillan.
