PECULIAR SYMPTOMS IN AN INFANT DUE TO CONTRACTED PREPUCE. To the

Editor,

"Indian Medical Gazette."

Sir,?In my report of the case of the infant with the tight foreskin producing suspended respiration and diminished action of the heart, an extraordinary peculiarity of symptom was inadvertently omitted. The day after the operation of slitting up the foreskin, the urine assumed a claret colour and Btained the bed-clothes for several days, lhis passed off in three or four days. It became necessary to push back the mucous membrane from the glans penis a few days after, and again the claret-coloured urine appeared and lasted for three or four days and passed off without any drugs being used. Doubtless the cause of the phenomenon was due to the escape of the htemoglobulin due to partial, rather temporary, paralysis of some of the nerves. The same^ thing has not occurred again, and the child is now improving. Another peculiarity may be mentioned that, for at least a month aud-a-half of its existence, the child never cried, nor gave utterance to sound of sort or kind. During the first two months or so there was a feeble cry,?the child being very delicate ; but a little before the operation, the crying ceased, and not till a few days ago?the child being now nearly four months old?has the child cried. This will also probably be due to some temporary paralysis or suspension of function of
