Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland Abstracts of papers presented at the third Annual Meeting The third Annual Meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was held on N4th July I978 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with Professor Patrick Collins, the President, in the chair. The meeting included a symposium on 'The relief of pancreatic pain', with presentations by Mr Peter Bevan, Dr John Healy, Dr Christopher Mallinson, and Dr Hugh Raftery, and a symposium on 'Pancreatic surgery', with presentations by Mr John Trapnell, Professor Maurice Mercadier, and Lord Smith. Abstracts of other papers presented are printed below. The next meeting of the society will be held in Manchester in the summer of I979 with Professor Henry Howat in the chair. Method Pancreatic enzyme secretion has been studied in three groups of rabbits: (i) 'controls'-animals allowed unrestricted food and water; (ii) 'alcoholics'animals drinking 20 % ethanol for periods up to 6 months; (iii) 'diet restricted'-animals given water and a comparable food intake to 'alcoholics'. Hourly pancreatic juice samples were collected under anaesthesia before and after stimulation with Sincalide (synthetic active octapeptide of CCK-PZ). Results -,Aere analysed by Student's t test.
