Editors’ note The Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine (JSCM) would like to welcome Dr. Amanda Botticello of the Kessler Foundation, Dr. Steven Brose of the Louis Stokes VAMC and Case Western Reserve University, Dr. David Gater of the Pennsylvania State College of Medicine, Dr. Michael Richardson of the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, and Dr. Theodore Malmstrom of Saint Louis University, all of whom join JSCM as Associate Editors. And we would also like to thank Dr. William Bockenek, who retired as an Associate Editor this year. Our expanded editorial board is integral to our plans to strengthen JSCM as a the premier journal for clinical and research publications on spinal cord injury (SCI), rehabilitation and care of people with SCI. We also look forward to working in closer concert with the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals and its new president Lisa Beck of the Mayo Clinic to publish work by and for the wide spectrum of professionals who work with patients with SCI. In this issue we lead off with a feature article by Felicia Skelton on the use of health care in the first year post-SCI and accompanying editorial from Gerben DeJong on how improving SCI health care can help avert rehospitalization. As all of us who work in health care are aware, the hospital readmission rate is a key factor that is examined in assessing the quality of health care by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as well as by accrediting bodies and the Leapfrog group. The other articles in this issue span the gamut of SCI research from cellular response to injury through rehabilitation through muscle stimulation and physical rehabilitation using the Nintendo Wii Fit.
