Differential repair of UV damage in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is cell cycle dependent by Carrol Terleth, Raymond Waters, Jaap Brouwer and Pieter van de Putte 7he EMBO Journal, 9, 2899-2904, 1990. This paper described the influence of the cell cycle on the differential repair of the MAT and HML loci of the yeast S.cerevisiae. The results were thought to show that the difference in the rate of repair between the two loci disappeared in the G2 phase. In order to determine more exactly the transition point between differential and nondifferential repair in the cell cycle, we have repeated the experiments with samples taken every 10 min from the beginning of S to the end of the G2 phase. However, all samples also showed normal differential repair when the whole experiment was repeated. Therefore we do not see any evidence for specific repair of HML in the G2 phase. In the above paper, the reference cited as Bems et al. should read Kotin,R.M., Menninger,J.C., Ward,D.C. and Berns,K.I. (1991) Genomics, 10, 831-834. In addition, an oversight in assembling the references led to the omission of a key paper [Kotin,R.M. and Berns,K.I. (1989) Virology, 170, 460-467] which describes the first characterization of an AAV cellular sequence isolated from AAV latent cell lines.
