Relocation opportunities BBC2 is looking for families and couples who are considering relocating to the Caribbean, India, Thailand, or Central or South America to take part in a new series. Human rights inquiry The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission began the first of 12 public hearings into emergency health care in Belfast last month. The hearings, which will inform the commission’s inquiry into whether the human rights of patients seeking emergency care in Northern Ireland have been protected and respected, will take place until the end of this month. Health minister Edwin Poots, Northern Ireland’s chief nursing officer Charlotte McArdle and RCN Northern Ireland have already given evidence. The minister said: ‘I am committed to ensuring that, as far as am I able, all of the necessary components for world class emergency care are in place for the people of Northern Ireland.’

From January 1, the new chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) will be Dame Janet Finch. Professor Finch is said to bring substantial experience to the NMC, which she gained as vice chancellor of Keele University between 1995 and 2010 and then in a number of non-executive director roles. She is currently a member of the Medical Research Council and Science and Technology Honours Committee, and an honorary professor of sociology at the Morgan Centre for the Study of Relationships, University of Manchester. Mark Addison, the current chair of council, steps down at the end of December.
