Do you have former colleagues or friends who may be interested in returning to nursing? Health Education England has invested in a new multi-million-pound training resource and launched a national campaign to persuade former nurses that it has ‘never been easier to return’. Details of the campaign and training are available at comeback.hee.nhs.uk

Harmful events The Scottish Government has proposed legislation requiring health and social care provider organisations to tell people if their care or treatment has caused them physical or psychological harm, and is asking for practitioners’ views on the proposal.

If this becomes law, organisations will have to demonstrate their commitment to disclose details of events that caused physical or psychological harm to the people involved. The consultation document outlines existing approaches to candour and provides details of the proposed requirements for organisations to report disclosable events, monitor implementation of a new organisational duty of candour, and offer staff appropriate training and support. To read the proposals in full and respond to them, go to tinyurl.com/pggfrwn before January 12.

Research strategy As part of its commitment to improving health and social care through research, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety Northern Ireland has published a proposed strategy for health and social care research and development. The strategy involves enhancing research infrastructure and support for research staff, and focusing on research relevant to local populations. To read the document and respond to its proposals, go to tinyurl.com/pvtcwpx before January 2.

Dementia services The University of Stirling’s Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) has developed a best-practice education programme for healthcare professionals in emergency departments (EDs) on managing patients with cognitive impairments. The number of such patients presenting to EDs has increased over recent years and the programme has been developed in partnership with NHS ED specialists. The launch of the programme last month coincided with the opening of a DSDC hospital room that demonstrates design and technology ideas for all acute settings. To book a place on the programme, visit tinyurl.com/pww2qmf
