The WHO focus remains on improving and sustaining hand hygiene and helping to save lives by reducing healthcare associated infection. In recent times, fundamental infection prevention ‘weaknesses’ have again surfaced around the world, in both developed and developing countries, in relation to both knowledge and/or practice – strong healthcare systems can combat these weaknesses.
