RISLEY: Dermoid Cyst of the Left Cornea.

DERMOID CYST OF THE LEFT CORNEA. By DR. S. D. RISLEY, PHILADELPHIA, PA.

A. R., aged eighteen years, male, consulted ruie January 20, I88o, regarding a tumor on his left eye. He related that his mother had noticed 'during very early infancy a white spot the size of a large pin's head near the external limbus of the cornea, but situated entirely on the sclerotica. It gradually increased in size as the child grew. It has never caused any pain or trouble otber than the defective vision and deformity. At present, mfoiz. j 0. D. healthy, V. i in 0. S., deciphered Sn. 6o at Ii i1. There is on 0. S. a pinkish white tumiior 5 mimi. in height, 8 mmIDI. in vertical diamiieter at the base, and I ctm. in itslhorizontal diameter. It was nearly an oblique truncated cone, anid four black hairs, the length of ordinary cilix, with nunmerous colorless ones, grew fromn its top. The base horizontal line is situ-

ated half on the cornea. The cor-

neal side is steeper than the scleral side, and the base more sharply defined. The cornea is hazy, 4i[ nm. around the base, and is lifted up above the surrounding cornlea, which is elsewh-ere transparent. The iris reacts promiiptly ; the anterior chamiiber is normal; the deeper media are transparent, and the fundus healthy. The accompanving sketch, by Mr. H. T. Carris, of Philadelphia, in water-col6rs, very perfectly represents the appearance of the growth, which is uindoubtedly a dermiioid cyst. The lower sketch rel)resents the appearance presented with the eye turned strongly toward the nose. The paLtient has not yet conisented to its removal.
