Dental Caries

Cervical Abscess in of the OdontoOwen Edmund introduced a Mr. logical Society, discussion on the treatment of carious milk molars, in which he expressed the opinion that conservative treatment of such teeth was being carried too far; many such teeth were stopped He said that it which ought to be extracted. was worse than useless to prepare and stop a temporary molar, whilst septic micro-orgauisms were left lurking about the fang, for in due course these germs found their way into cervical lymphatic glands, and eventually caused suppuration. He held that if a tooth were far advanced in caries it was practically impossible to render it aseptic, as children could not submit to the necessary manipulation and restraint. He alsq strongly condemned the method of treatment of "capping" a carious tooth and leaving the elements of disease uninterfered with. Mr. Owen's views, however, did not meet with universal assent at the meeting; more's the pity. ?(Medical Press and Circular, June 1894.)
