the chest. Chest computed tomography showed pneumomediastinum and a longitudinal membranous tracheal rupture (Figure 1). The patient underwent emergency repair through a right thoracotomy, which showed a 30-mm tear of the trachea. The hoarseness resolved in 3 days, and he was discharged after 5 days. Postoperative computed tomography demonstrated complete healing of the posterior tracheal wall (Figure 2). The most common symptoms of tracheal rupture include dyspnea, subcutaneous emphysema, and mild hemoptysis. Delayed hoarseness is a rare presentation of tracheal rupture. A 17-year-old boy was admitted for sudden onset of hoarseness. He had been hit in the chest by a motorcycle 8 h earlier, and had been evaluated by a district hospital where his initial physical examination and chest radiograph were unremarkable.
