This article presents a technique that combines the final impression and centric jaw relationship appointments. It can be used with complete dentures, single dentures, and altered cast impressions. TECHNIQUE 1. Make a custom final impression tray with a wax occlusion rim on the preliminary cast. For a removable partial denture with a distal-extension base, attach the tray and occlusion rim to the framework retentive mesh. Then remove the distal-extension part of the cast. 2. Complete border molding and make final impressions in a conventional manner. Choose a final impression ma-

terial that will undergo some manipulation without damage, such as a polysulfide impression material. 3. Use the final impression as the record base and make the centric jaw relation (CJR) record. Attach the CJR record material securely to the wax occlusion rim (Fig. 1). The material chosen to register the CJR should also be stable and strong enough to undergo manipulation

If desired, include an anterior tooth try-in and fzka343owtransfer at this time. 4: RIO& out the CJR record with a thinned irreversible hy@roc&oid mixture obtained by using a 2:l water/ poader r&o. Cover the entire CJR record and contoured %ax oechrdon rim with this mixture. After final set, c.ut back the irreversible hydrocoiloid to expose the borders of the final impression (Figs. 2 and 3). 5. Pour the final impression with the blocked out CJR record by using the boxing technique advocated by Morrow et al.’ (Fig. 4). The irreversible hydrocolloid blookout prevents the loss of the CJR record. 6. Remove the boxing m&&al and the irreversible hydro&ioid bfockout. Place the master cast on an artic-
ulator, before separation from the combined final impression and occlusion rim, by using the preserved CJR record (Fig. 5). 7. After separation of the master cast from the final impression, construct a new wax occlusion rim duplicating the original contoured wax rim. The articulated casts are now ready for the arrangment of teeth. REFERENCE 1. Morrow RM, Rudd KD, Eiesman HF. Dental laboratory procedures. let ed. St Louis: CV Mosby, 1980;58-66.
