CASE OF PENETRATING WOUND OF THE ABDOMEN.

V

By Assistant-Surgeon Sasi Bhushan

Kumar,

Seetapur. Bettun,

a

Hindu child set. 5 years,

was

admitted into the

Sitapur Charitable Dispensary on the 22nd May. The child's father states that five days ago the child had been gored by an ox on the abdomen, after which the viscera came out. No treatment adopted for 5 days beyond covering the part with a cloth moistened with mustard oil. On admission, an irregular

wound about the size of a rupee was found about 2 inches below the left costal arch; about 2 feet of omentum came out; the omentum was highly congested, tending to be gangrenous. There was no constitutional disturbance except constipation and feeble pulse. I at once put the child on the table and amputated the protruded omentum by putting two ligatures just on the principle as the umbilical cord is separated. Little bleeding followed ; a few doses of calomel and soda moved the bowels. Appetite returned ; good food and tonics were administered. The child left hospital 12 days after the operation perfectly cured. My object in bringing this case to your notice is to show that derangement of the omentum is not followed by any important constitutional symptoms. Both during its conit state and did after its amputation not show the gestive least constitutional disturbance.
