Bristol academic recognised for contributions to feline medicine TIM Gruffydd-Jones, emeritus professor at the University of Bristol, was recognised for his contributions to feline research by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), during its recent annual convention in Denver. Professor Gruffydd-Jones received the American Veterinary Medical Foundation/ Winn Feline Foundation Award, which is presented each year to a member of the AVMA to mark their long-term 158 | Veterinary Record | August 16/23, 2014

contributions to advancing feline research. Professor Gruffydd-Jones qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1973 and spent 18 months in practice before joining the University of Bristol as the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) scholar. He has remained at Bristol ever since. He earned his PhD in 1982 in the field of feline reproduction and became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1998. Also in 1998, he was

appointed to a chair in feline medicine. His particular interests lie in feline infectious diseases, gastroenterology, endocrine disorders and breeding problems. He was chairman of the FAB (now known as International Cat Care) from 1980 to 2002 and is currently deputy chairman of the charity Cats Protection. He also has a longstanding interest in pedigree cats and has worked closely with various breed clubs. doi: 10.1136/vr.g5117
