Requires OS X 10-6 or later. Available from the App Store. Free www.breathing-zone.com Breathing Zone Free offers simple guided breathing exercises. This free version for Macs and iPhone is a useful introduction to the health benefits of slower, therapeutic breathing. With the free version, session lengths are limited to five minutes and the target breathing rate cannot be lower than five beats per minute. But try the free version first and then, if you are impressed, buy the full version from the App Store for $3.99 (£2.58). For Android phones, the full version is available for £1.99, but not all features in the iPhone version are available on Android devices. The developers claim that its breathing exercises help reduce stress, improve your mood, make you feel more relaxed and energised, and over time, can help to reduce high blood pressure. The phone’s microphone assesses your breathing and sets a reduced target rate. Set the length of the session and breathe in and out in sync with an image that pulsates at a gradually slower pace. There are no complicated settings and no difficult breathing patterns to master.
