proximately the last 2 -cars. For some time he had noticed clicking of the temporomandibular joints while vatin g anti c~omplained of ai) occasional hcadac~lic in the right temporal region. Thcv was 110history of trauma to the jaws or temporomandibular joint, anal there was no history of infection. TI:xamination revealed that the mandibular openin g was 29.5 mm. without tleviation. There were minimal lateral excursions in the closed position, approximately ‘2 to 3 mm. to the right or to the left. There was absolutely no lateral excursion in the open position. The temporomandibular joint acted purely as a hinge with absolutely no sliding component. A Panorcx radiograph was suggestive of hypertrophy of the articular eminences bilaterally. Plan&rams confirmed the hypertrophy. No other bony pathosis was observed. The patient is being observed every 6 months to determine if the mandibular limitation is progressive. Kichar-d K.
