The benign abdominal multicystic mesothelioma is a rare disease. Usually a malignancy of the ovary is suspected prior to and during surgery. The histological diagnosis and the clinical course however are benign. Three cases are reported. Diagnosis, treatment and follow up are discussed. Benign mesothelial tumors are rare and only 60 cases have been published u p to now ( 1 , 2 , 4 , 9-11). This report presents three new cases in which other diagnoses were made initially. Analysis of all available data is compared with the clinical findings and suggestions for the diagnostic procedure, treatment and follow up are given.

Case reports A 45-year-old woman was referred t o the gynecological department because of abdominal pain and dyspareunia. This had been present for more than twenty years, but it increased gradually. The general physical examination was unremarkable. Both vaginal and rectal examination revealed irregular masses in the pouch of Douglas. Ultrasound investigation and computed tomography confirmed the presence of cystic masses at several different locations in the abdominal cavity. T h e hematological parameters were normal.
