Before and After: Superior Vena Cava Syndrome Treated by Fibrinolysis M. Dias-Neto *, J.F. Ramos São João Hospital Centre, Porto, Portugal

A 65 years old male patient presented with superior vena cava syndrome (A) due to venous thrombosis following right subclavian venous catheter insertion for chemotherapy. Because of neurological symptoms (blurred vision, headache, and dizziness) even after anticoagulation, he was treated by catheter guided fibrinolysis using recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rTPA) via a left internal jugular vein puncture. Clinical improvement was achieved after 48 hours of rTPA perfusion (B). Check angiography showed a patent superior vena cava and fibrinolysis was stopped. The patient remains asymptomatic after 6 months follow up.
