We would like to thank Dr Al-Abdi for his interest in our publications addressing the coagulation perspective regarding intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) in preterm infants [1,2]. We certainly agree with the need to assess the role of specific plasma concentrates applied for the treatment of preterm infants upon potential morbidities. Notably, the two studies [3,4] referred to in our paper - regarding the effect of fresh frozen plasma (FFP) on preventing IVH - did not indicate any specific type of FFP that was used. Due to the heterogeneity of such studies, it is indeed recommended to specify this point in future research. Although one small study [3] reported reduced IVH with volume expansion, this was not supported by any other later study [5,6]. The role of early FFP application after coagulation screening for IVH prevention was reported recently by Dani et al. [4], as discussed in our manuscript. Notably, additional references from the 1990’s [5-8] mentioned by the author might strengthen our conclusions but did not add any new findings, and thus were not quoted within our narrative review. Naturally, as we focused upon hematological interventions, not all other pharmacological agents [9,10] were discussed in detail. In summary, the aim of our publication was to promote the issue of potential IVH prevention by coagulation manipulation. We are happy that this goal has been achieved as increased awareness to the topic is manifested by addressing this rebuttal. We appreciate Dr Al-Abdi’s enligh tening remarks and contribution.
