tion safety. Under his leadership, for example, the University of Michigan Health System’s pharmacy department developed award-winning, patient-centered, medical home model pharmacy services. The department’s work in improving the safety of pain management made the health system a finalist for the 2011 ASHP Foundation Award for Excellence in Medication Safety. Before coming to the university, Stevenson led pharmacy services at Detroit Medical Center, Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center, and West Virginia University Hospitals in Morgantown. Stevenson is the treasurer of the Hospital Pharmacy Section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation. He has played an active role with state and national pharmacy

organizations as well, including serving on the ASHP Board of Directors in 2007–10. His many honors include recognition as Pharmacist of the Year by the Michigan Society of HealthSystem Pharmacists in 1998 and by the Michigan Pharmacists Association in 2009. In 2010, he received the John W. Webb Lecture Award. His decades of contributions to the professional literature include an article that the ASHP Research and Education Foundation recognized in 2009 with an award for outstanding pharmacy practice research. Stevenson received his B.S. and Pharm.D. degrees from Wayne State University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions in Detroit. DOI 10.2146/ajhp130791

The award, established in 2001, recognizes individual ASHP members who have a record of leading sustained, progressive improvements in pharmacy services at specific U.S. hospitals or health systems and have achieved national prominence for practice leadership. Stevenson has led pharmacy services at the University of Michigan Health System, based in Ann Arbor, since 1999. He was promoted to the position of chief pharmacy officer in 2011. At the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, he holds the positions of associate dean, professor, and department chair. His career has focused on innovative pharmacy services and medica-
