Alopecia Areata A 61-year-old Caucasian female consulted because of hair loss that was initially circumscribed but witbin several weeks became generalized. This patient had previously been

reported as suffering from the triad chronic mucoctttatieoits candidiasis, lnyositis and thytnotiHt* (Montes & Ceballos). Clinically, areas of smooth white skin, completely devoid of hair, covered almost the entire scalp (Fig. I). Histopatbologically, tbe hair follicles were small and retracted towards the epidermis (Fig. 2). Lymphocytes accumulated around capillaries and bair bulbs (Figs. 3 and 4). Most of the papillae were composed of cells rounded or oval nuclei and sparse connective tisstie fibers (Fig. 5). Addresses: Leopoldo F.
