Allergy primer
The Allergy Primer supplement to this issue of the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology (IFAR) is a concise, up-to-date review of the breadth of subjects important for those practitioners who diagnose and treat patient with allergic rhinitis. The subjects covered by this primer include epidemiology, immunology, diagnosis, allergy testing methods, and the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The intended purpose of this primer is multifold: to present useful information on allergy to patient-facing health care professionals in an easily digestible and portable format; to serve as an educational guide for students, residents, and physicians undergoing recertification in order to expand knowledge base and for exam preparation; and to serve as an educational resource for physician extenders and nursing staff. The experienced allergy practitioner will also find this primer a succinct review of the most current concepts in testing, treatment, and immunotherapy based on recent scientific literature.
