AHVLA becomes the APHA The Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) became the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) on October 1 after being merged with various elements of the Food and Environment Research Agency. The new agency will now include the Bee Inspectorate, the Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate, the Plant Variety and Seeds Group and the GM Inspectorate 314 | Veterinary Record | October 4, 2014

(VR, August 16/23, 2014, 175, p 157; August 30, 2014, 175, p 182). The Government says that pooling experience and resources will improve flexibility and resilience, and will strengthen the ability to respond effectively to a future animal or plant health emergency.
