The American College of Epidemiology is pleased to announce the selection of Abby E. Rudolph as the winner of this year’s Annals of Epidemiology Award. This prize of $3000 is awarded annually to the first author of the manuscript chosen by the Publication Committee of the American College of Epidemiology as the best article in the journal. This award underscores the close affiliation of the College with the Annals of Epidemiology. The American College of Epidemiology funds this award to recognize and support high-quality, epidemiologic research that is carefully reported and addresses questions of substantial public health or methodological significance.

Dr. Rudolph co-authored the winning paper entitled “Individual and neighborhood correlates of membership in drug using networks with a higher prevalence of HIV in New York City (2006-2009).” The paper appeared in our May 2013 issue. Dr. Rudolph is an infectious disease epidemiologist at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation in Calverton, Maryland. She received her doctorate from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2011 and her MPH from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in 2007. Her research “focuses on understanding how individual, environmental, and network factors act together to shape disease transmission dynamics, risk behaviors, and health service utilization among populations disproportionately burdened with disease.”
