The testimonials above all give abundant evidence as to why Dr Jeane Hester was chosen as the recipient of this year’s Cohn de Laval award. I, personally, have known Jeane since the early 1980s when, as a very new graduate, I went with two people from the Canadian Red Cross National Office, Dr Francis Shephard, and Dr John Derrick down to her clinic at the MD Anderson to see how multiple unit apheresis donor procedures could be managed. The unit was impressive and it was apparent that Jeane was keenly aware of the basic functioning of the machines and could run any one of them herself. Over the years,

through various meetings, Jeane and I became friends so it is with great delight that I congratulate her on the award and wish her all of the best in the future. In a recent letter to me she said, “I hope we can get together in the near future and share a glass of wine”. The tales we will then tell will be of the history and evolution of apheresis to which Dr Jeane Hester has contributed enormously. I thank you Jeane, as does, I know, the apheresis community for all that you have done. Again, congratulations and very best wishes for the future.
