A New Case of Recombination Within the HL-A System KONRADBERG,FRIEDRICH SCHWARZFISCHER AND HANSWISCHERATH Institut fur Anthropologie und Humangenetik der Universitat Munchen, Miinchen
Abstract. We report another case of recombination within the HL-A system between the first and second segregant series of antigens. The recombination frequency is 0.8%.
The human HL-A system is nowadays considered to consist of two loci, a third locus [l I] is currently discussed. Recombinations have been reported by different authors [I, 2, 4-10, 121. We describe a case of cross-over observed in a family from the ‘Bayrischer Wald’. HL-A typing was performed with the microlymphocytotoxicity test (NIH technique) using mono- and multispecific sera (Behring, Marburg). HL-A phenotype

The individuals have been tested several times with identical results. Our serological testing showed no illegitimacy of the children (see table on the following page).

The biostatistical opinion of parentage based upon the results of blood group tests [3] demonstrates a probability of 99.9980-99.9975%, i. e. paternity practically proved. In the course of examination of 17 families with 63 children we found one recombination in 119 haplotypes, i. e. 0.8%. Our result corresponds to those of other authors. References 1 BODMER,W.
