Hari Jiwba, a labourer by occupation, admitted into the clinical ward of the Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy Hospital on the 1st of December, 1865, in a state of depression, and unable to give of sensation of the trunk any account of his illness. Has loss and is unable to open his mouth. Pulse feeble, about 60. Ordered to have Skin coldish. Tongue thickly furred all over. a turpentine and castor-oil enema, and 2 ozs. of brandy and egg mixture immediately. 2nd.?Much cannot be made out ; appears to be more sensible; pulse 50, slow ; surface cool. Trunk still insensible. Opens his mouth with difficulty. Complains of constriction about the muscles of the back of the neck. There is the peculiar tetanic expression of the face. Abdominal muscles painful and tense. Bowels moved once by the enema, A wound is detected on the second toe of the right foot. To have tinct: cannabis ind : tn. xxx. and Mist: sp : vin : gal : giss. every three hours continuously ; two pints of strong mutton broth. Poultice to the toe. 3rd.?Pulse 58, compressible. Is more sensible to-day ; says that the wound on the toe was caused by some coal falling on it about ten days ago, four days after which symptoms of tetanus set in with pains in the muscles of the back and neck, and spasms of the muscles of the chest, followed by slight trismus ; says also that the auoesthesia of the trunk commenced about three days ago, and now extends as low as a third of ail inch on each thigh. Sensation of the upper extremities is also impaired ; severe spasms come on now every hour, but remain for a short time ; opisthotouos is just commeucing. Can take a little food. To have?
