The 7th International Immunoglobulin Conference was held in Interlaken, Switzerland, on 4–5th April 2014. This Conference is built on a strong heritage of immunoglobulin-focused meetings dating back to the first meeting in 1981. The focus of the Conference was immunoglobulins, both at the molecular and clinical level. This Conference brought together almost 250 clinicians and researchers from a broad range of disciplines to share new clinical experiences and research across specialities in a unique forum. As the Scientific Committee of the Conference, we were very pleased to assemble a distinguished international faculty to explore and discuss novel uses of immunoglobulin therapy. Poster presentations further facilitated the exchange of experiences and ideas, and stimulated extensive discussion. As a testament to this Conference’s highly scientific programme, it was accredited for Continuing Medical Education (CME) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), a European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) institution. New clinical experience of immunoglobulin therapy in an ever-increasing number of indications, including immunodeficiencies, neuropathies and transplantation, were addressed in detail. The research presentations and discussions revealed many new areas of progress and provided an exciting forum with which to build upon diverse experiences. The Conference schedule was presented in plenary and parallel topical sessions, as follows: • • • • • • • • •

Immunodeficiencies Neurology Transplantation Immunoglobulin in clinical practice Mechanisms of action Immunomodulation Interlaken Leadership Awards Poster presentations Immunoglobulins: current understandings and future directions

The aim of these proceedings is to bring together the knowledge and data presented at each of the sessions at the Conference and disseminate this information to a larger audience. Each session from the Conference is covered by one paper, written by the speakers and co-chairs. We would like to thank the co-sponsors of this event: CSL Behring for their financial support for both the Conference and Proceedings; Wiley and Clinical and Experimental Immunology for their support in publishing this supplement; and the British Society of Immunology for their endorsement of the Scientific Programme. We would also especially like to thank the Faculty and poster presenters for sharing their data and experiences and the Conference delegates for their enthusiastic engagement.
